The gentlemen bachelors of Bachelors-Hall, Chestnut-street,
and elsewhere (for they are very numerous) are desired to
read the following lines, addressed to Dr. Fordyce on the
publication of his sermons. [signed] Amanda.
Nymph-lane, Front-street, December, 1768.
  Thy sermons, Fordyce, are scarce worth
  Our reading three times over;
  Since by their ruins, no maid on earth
  Shall gain an earthly lover.
  Indeed, should some wing'd Cupid fly
  From heaven to choose a mate,
  He wisely might to you apply,
  To form a nymph complete.
  But while your sex will still prefer
  To mental our external charms,
  Say, can you justly censure her
  Who conquers with the surest arms?
